上次提到 "In some way, he is a nice person, but in other ways, he is not." 一句没有问题，但 "On the one hand, he is a nice person, but on the other hand, he is not." 一句矛盾，令人摸不着头脑。可见 on the one hand ... on the other hand 这句型虽然是用来表达对比（contrast），却不可把两个截然相反（contradictory）的意思写上去。因此，虽然刚才那一句不成立，下面一句却没有问题：

On the one hand, he is a nice person, but on the other hand, he is a bit naive.

另外，下面几句表达的是对照，而不是相反的意思：

On the one hand, John is very talkative, but on the other hand, his friends seem to like him for it.

On the one hand, it is unbearably hot in summer in Hong Kong, but on the other hand, it is nice that winter is short here.

读者 Pico 见过有人在 on the other hand 的 hand 后加 s，这是错误的。
